Pilot Plants, World Wide

Our digester pilot plants are designed to test a wide range of wastewater with strengths from 2,000 – 200,000 mg/L COD at temperatures of 5°C – 90°C. Wastewater is automatically dosed into the pilot plant where a system of anaerobic reactors and pumps simulates the conditions of a full scale Cigar® or UASB digester system. These systems are placed directly into a factory and operated with the actual authentic wastewater under actual factory conditions prior to full scale digester system design. Waste Solutions has designed, built and operated a number of these pilot plants in potato chips, potato & cassava starch, sugar cane molasses distillery and vegetable processing factories in Australasia and Europe.

Bromley, Christchurch, New Zealand

The Bromley Wastewater treatment plant has been developed over many years and services the largest city on the south island of New Zealand. The waste is mainly municipal with some industry wastewater. Waste Solutions have been retained to provide specialist knowledge and design in a number of areas. We have also been retained to provide operational and technical advice for the next eight years.

Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada

This project was in a region with climatic extremes. The digester was designed for anaerobic digestion of pre-thickened Waste Activated Sludge at a municipal wastewater treatment plant accepting waste from one of McCain's potato processing facilities. Special design and operational features were implemented to control foam production.

Pukete Road, Hamilton, New Zealand

This project involves upgrading current biogas quality by designing and installing a gas scrubber and a dehumidifier system. This will allow electricity generation in a 2MW genset. The work included a peer review of the long term upgrades (to 2028) and providing advice on nutrient removal, thermophilic digestion operations and options for the reuse of biosolids.

Waste Solutions provided technical and operational consultancy services for this 200,000 head piggery in Utah. Following poor performance of the steam-injected mesophilic reactors, Waste Solutions delivered operational and design changes to increase biogas production resulting in large savings in heating costs due to very low ambient temperatures.
